I design products and build interactive experiences: interfaces that feel effortless, stories that feel cinematic, and decisions I can explain and measure.

Case studies 03

Three projects, in depth.

Each one covers the situation, what I did, the decisions I made, who I worked with and what I’d do next.

01

The Johnny Marr Collection

Thirteen guitars for Christie’s, shown one at a time. I built it from their designers’ Figma files, then rebuilt it as a stepped carousel after review.

02

AJ Bell

One tokenised design system for a UK investment platform. The primary button colour was settled by a 200-person test.

03

Horse & Country

Six platforms, 30+ user tests. Engagement up 25%, retention up 20% and development time down 40%.

Shorter write-ups. The concepts are self-initiated pitches, built to show an idea working instead of describing it.

About

The same way of working, whatever the product.

I’m Conor Maguire, a product designer and creative technologist in London, with 6+ years of contract work across fintech, streaming, sport and luxury.

I started out teaching UX at General Assembly, then designed Visa’s World Cup fan platform and Opta’s live-data game. Since 2023 I’ve designed Horse & Country’s streaming apps for mobile, web and TV, alongside contracts for ClassVR, Fanfinity and AJ Bell.

I design in Figma, prototype in ProtoPie and build in code: product design, design systems, interactive experiences and the handoff in between.

Four principles I hold to

  1. 01

    Give the important thing weight

One focal point per screen. A live broadcast leads the page it is on, and the primary button is the only thing on the page in its colour.

  2. 02

    Test before build

Prototypes go in front of real users before engineering time is spent. Being wrong in a prototype is cheap.

  3. 03

What ships is what was designed

I stay through the build, or build it myself, and check the live product against the design until they match.

  4. 04

    Write the rules down

Tokens, specs and checklists, so decisions survive handoff. This site is built against a written rulebook of 19 UX laws.

Working with AI

Designing and building with AI.

I use Claude Code and Cursor to turn designs into working builds. The Johnny Marr experience was built that way from Christie’s Figma files. The St Ives School and A Collection of Jewels I took from concept to live myself, and so was this site.

The agents write most of the code. I decide what gets built, read every change and check the result against the design before it goes live.

I also teach this. I run AI training for General Assembly’s corporate clients, including News UK, GE HealthCare and Deloitte.
